What is the JSE?
JSE Limited (JSE), is a company licensed to operate a stock exchange market in terms of the Securities Services Act. It is a place where companies looking for capital to expand their business activities, meet investors who are looking for opportunities to grow their savings.
What are shares?
Shares are units of ownership in a company, meaning that at shareholder owns the net asset value of the company e.g. if four people contribute R10 each and buys a cake, each of them will own a quarter each, or the one who contributes more money will get a bigger slice of the cake.
